Thoughtfactory’s Notebooks: The Littoral Zone

It was in the late summer and it is a constructed  still life. After   I had come across the crab  lying amongst the coastal rocks I looked for a suitable background to photograph it. I looked for  a site  that would be protected from the tide and wind so that I could return and re-photograph it if necessary.  

The picture below was made whilst I was on a  recent  late afternoon  poodlewalk along the granite rocks at the foot fo the cliffs near Kings Beach.  Maleko was with me:

There was some cloud cover that afternoon,   due to a strong south westerly wind blowing. The sun kept popping in and out of the clouds. There were a few drizzly showers the following morning  when I was walking the poodles along a backcountry road.

This was  made on an early  morning poodlewalk with Kayla during the summer-time. 

During the high summer months the early morning is the best time for photography  for The Littoral Zone project  along the coast  of the southern Fleurieu Peninsula.

That is when the light is soft and gentle. However, it quickly becomes harsh and very contrasty. Then I am  forced to photograph in the open shade, if I want to continue to work on the Littoral Zone project.  

This granite  formation is part of the rocks on the western edge of Dep's Beach. It is a halfway point  of a  morning walk that I do when the light is soft--usually when there is cloud cover in the early morning:

I am intrigued by the shapes and  textures in the early morning light.
